With my upcoming Personality Portrait Mini Sessions happening this July, I wanted to take a moment to answer some of the most common questions I receive about these unique sessions. If you’ve been curious about whether a personality portrait is the right fit for your child, this guide is for you!
What Are Personality Portraits?
Personality Portraits are designed to capture your child exactly as they are in this moment. These sessions are typically edited in black and white to minimize distractions and keep the focus on what matters most - their expressions, quirks, and genuine personality. These timeless portraits are meant to preserve who your child is, not just what they look like.
How Are They Different from Traditional Portraits?
While traditional portraits often involve posed smiles and polished appearances, personality portraits take a more candid approach. There’s no pressure to "perform." Whether your child is silly, shy, serious, or somewhere in between, these sessions are all about capturing their true essence. Think less perfection, more personality.
What Should My Child Wear?
For personality portraits, I recommend neutral, solid-colored tops - similar to what you might choose for a lifestyle session. Busy patterns or bright logos can distract from your child’s face and expression. Since these are cropped from the waist or chest up, pants and shoes won’t be visible, so there’s no need to worry about those.
What’s the Best Age for a Personality Session?
These sessions are great for children who can sit up independently (typically around 6 months old) through about 10 years old. Each stage brings its own charm and character, making it a perfect way to document your child’s growth over time.
Can Siblings Be Included?
Absolutely! If you’d like to include more than one child, I recommend booking back-to-back session slots. That way, we have time for individual portraits of each child, as well as a few sibling shots together.
Are the Photos Only in Black and White?
The base session includes a collection of beautifully edited black and white images. If you’d like to receive the full gallery in both black and white and color, that option is available for an additional cost.
