A Sunset Family Session in Downtown Binghamton: The Matthews' family
Downtown Binghamton might not be the first place you think of for family photos, but for the Matthews family, it offered the perfect mix of charm, character, and connection. We chose a weekend evening just before sunset, when the streets are quieter and the light turns soft and golden. It gave us space to roam and that dreamy glow photographers live for.
Timing is everything in photography, and golden hour downtown is pure magic. We scheduled our session just before sunset to make the most of that flattering, golden light, while avoiding the usual weekday hustle. With fewer people around, we had the freedom to move through different spots and capture a wide variety of looks without distractions.
What I love most about shooting in Downtown Binghamton is how it offers so many versatile backdrops within just a few blocks:
- Classic brick buildings that bring warmth and texture
- Industrial elements with soft, dramatic contrast
- Tree-lined streets that catch the last light of day
Each spot gave us a new vibe without ever needing to drive somewhere else.
One of the most meaningful moments from this session was photographing the Matthews family together on the steps of the Broome County Courthouse. Downtown Binghamton stood tall behind them, bathed in the golden glow of evening. There was something powerful about capturing their closeness there, surrounded by the architecture and energy of the city they call home. The little ones leaned in, parents smiling wide, and for a few seconds, time just seemed to pause.
