If you’ve ever wondered what life looks like behind the scenes for your photographer, here’s a little glimpse into my day-to-day.
I’m Danielle, a family and portrait photographer based in Binghamton, NY. By day, I work full time as a project manager leading SEO and digital marketing projects. Outside my 9-to-5, I’m a mom of two little ones. And with the time that’s left - I’m the photographer dedicated to capturing your family’s most meaningful moments.
It’s a busy, beautifully full life. Here’s how it all comes together.
How it all started
My photography journey truly began after I had my first child. During my maternity leave, I went through a tough season with postpartum depression. I needed something that was just for me - something that would ignite a spark in me again.
That’s when I picked my camera back up. I’d started photography as a hobby during 2020, but my passion was reignited by the desire to capture my own baby’s fleeting moments. Before long, it became so much more. Photography gave me a creative outlet and a sense of purpose I hadn’t even realized was missing.
Now, a few years (and another sweet child) later, it’s a huge part of my life - one I intentionally make time for every single day.
A typical weekday
Most mornings, I’m up early to carve out an hour before work for my photography business. That time might be spent editing galleries, answering client emails, planning social media content, or updating my calendar with upcoming family sessions in the Binghamton area.
Then it’s off to my full-time job, managing digital projects and an SEO team. It keeps my mind sharp and my workflow organized - skills that serve me well as I grow my photography business.
Evenings are sacred family time. After picking up my kids from daycare, it’s all about dinner, baths, and some playtime before bed. Once they’re asleep, I might unwind - or sneak in a little more photo work if needed.
Weekends: family adventures & photoshoots
Weekends are a blend of creating personal memories and capturing memories for others. I often wake up before the kids to get a jump on editing or planning. During the day, we try to do something fun as a family - whether that’s a park outing, a simple walk around the block, or just playing on the patio.
I’ll typically schedule family or portrait sessions around those moments, often in the early morning or at golden hour when the light is best. After bedtime, it’s back to the computer, bringing those images to life for my clients.
Keeping the passion alive
Every week, I set aside time to dream and plan - thinking about the types of sessions I’d love to shoot, mini events I want to host, and new ways to connect with amazing local families.
It’s not always perfectly balanced (what is?), but carving out time for this passion of mine each day - even if it’s just a little bit - has been so fulfilling and healing. It’s something that’s truly for me, and I’m grateful I get to share it by capturing other families’ most meaningful seasons.
